Yoga can be understood as a spiritual discipline based on activities focusing to achieve peace of body and mind. The word Yoga was first mentioned in the oldest text, the Rig Ved which has the root word Yuj meaning unite. According to the Yogic scriptures, Yoga practice is something that can unite mind and body, man and nature, individual and universal consciousness.
Initially, Yoga was meant for spiritual growth and had 4 core values:
The first core value analyzed an individual’s perception and state of mind while understanding the cause of suffering and eventually found meditation as a tool to resolve the issue. The second core value focused on improving consciousness. The third was used as a way of achieving excellence. The fourth value was mysterious as Yoga could be used to penetrate into other people’s bodies and act supernaturally.
Thanks to the powerful families, institutions, and activities for promoting yoga until India attain
ed its independence in 1947 as it became widely accepted as the Indian nationalist movement grew like a way to build cultural identity. Today, Yoga is practiced worldwide by millions of people in various forms. At Red Earth, our resort in Gokarna, we focus on this ancient wisdom along with a modern living approach.
