While visiting

the beautiful Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) a unique feature that aligns the roads are rock pillars carefully placed at a distance from each other. There’s an interesting story attached to these rock pillars.

The story goes as follows,

“In the olden days, the kings of the Gonda tribes (a local community in Maharashtra) would visit nearby temples to pay their respects to the Gods. To communicate the arrival of the king to the temple’s priest, these rock pillars were installed. On top of the pillars were metal rings through which a rope passed through and a bell was attached to it. Once, the king was ready to leave, the king’s army would pull the rope and ring the bell to notify the temple priest of the king’s arrival.”

The rock pillars at the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve acted as the world’s first telegraph line and one of the very first Telecom Towers. Tourists visiting Tadoba can spot these rock pillars erected on the side of the road going from Mohrali range to Tadoba via Khatoda.
Each rock pillar is about 8-10 feet tall, made entirely of stones, tapering to the top.
After the Gond Kings lost control over their kingdom, the rule of the kingdom of Tadoba was restored back to the mighty tigers: The true kings of the jungle.

The pillars still stand tall

as a symbol of India’s concept of improvisation and innovation and a reminder of an era lost gone. The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve has many more hidden treasures within its interiors. Which makes it an exciting destination to visit for history buffs, travel experts, and wildlife fanatics. The TATR is blessed with a beautiful forest with many varieties of trees, vegetation, and grasslands, making it an ideal place for wild animals to inhabit and thrive. There’s a good reason Tadoba is known as a ‘Tiger Reserve’ because it is home to over 140 tigers and counting.
