Numerous rivers originate in the ghats and run towards Arabian sea, gushing through the forested valleys, bringing nutrient rich soil which is held by the mangrove forests at the estuaries, making this entire landscape teeming with life. From the torrential streams echoing croaks of the Dancing frogs to the least known Myristica swamps of the Western Ghats, there is so much to explore and time is never enough. This itinerary is designed through personal experience and passion to give you the best experience of extremely diverse lifeforms and breathtaking landscapes.

Day 1

Arrival at Red Earth Gokarna.

Evening hike on a forested hillock for tea/coffee with sunset over Arabian sea.

Walk back after dark via beach to explore night life on sea shore.

Day 2

Drive to Yana caves.

Yana caves: Amidst Western Ghats' lush evergreen forest, discover black limestone formations, ancient temples, and a naturally formed Shivalinga. Trek through a jungle trail to explore diverse flora, fauna, and 110 bird species. Enjoy the jungle melodies, especially the Malabar whistling thrush.

Drive to Bedthi conservation reserve

Bedthi conservation reserve: Source of Gangavali river, meeting the Arabian sea near Gokarna. Adjacent to Kali tiger reserve, it features diverse flora and fauna, with deciduous and evergreen vegetation. Conservation focus on hornbills and endangered plants led to its formation. Evening walks capture the transition from dusk to dark.

Day 3

Birding and stream walk to explore the wonderful cascades.

Drive to Mookambika wildlife sanctuary.
Mookambika wildlife sanctuary: Famous for the Kannada movie Kantara, this sanctuary offers stunning views from Kodachadri peak. Explore rich rainforest biodiversity on foot, visit the ancient Mookambika temple, and experience the Malnaad lifestyle. Sacred grooves showcase forest protection through religious beliefs.

Day 4

Early start of the day for sunrise at Kodachadri peak.

Relaxing day at the camp post delicious Malnaad breakfast.

Evening bird walk to Chakra reservoir for sunset with tea/coffee by the backwaters.

Walk back to the camp after dark to explore night life.

Day 5

Drive to Sharavathi valley wildlife sanctuary post leisurely breakfast.

Sharavathi Valley Wildlife Sanctuary: Northernmost for Western Ghats endemic Lion-tailed macaque. Surrounding Linganamakki reservoir and Jog falls, it offers diverse biodiversity, serene landscapes, and a haven for birdwatchers with over 230 species.

Drive to Agumbe post birding by the backwaters of Linganamakki reservoir.

Agumbe: Malgudi Days village, dubbed the Cherrapunji of South India, boasts high biodiversity in the Western Ghats. Home to King cobras, endemic species, and over 220 bird species, it's a paradise for nature enthusiasts with lush landscapes and unique wildlife.

Post dinner walk to explore night life.

Day 6

Leisurely morning with late breakfast.

Walk through the rainforest to explore riparian habitat.

Presentation and discussion over evening snacks and tea/coffee.

Night walk post dinner to find the target species.

Day 7

Drive to Panchagangavali estuary post breakfast

Panchagangavali estuary: Convergence of 5 rivers forms a rich wetland during low tide, a haven for over 160 bird species, including rare migratory ones like Eurasian oystercatchers.

Explore Aghnashini estuary after lunch, a biodiverse region where river meets sea, fostering mangroves, unique rice cultivation, and diverse birdlife.

Day 8

Leisurely morning with complimentary full body massage.
