It is today, what it is, primarily because of the people who man it. Our people are the custodians of the land and its life.\u00a0 They are the true owners of <a href=\"https:\/\/redearth.in\/\">Red Earth<\/a>. Providing skills-based on aptitude, creative training and finally empowering our people, was the original focus.\u00a0 Today this has become our priority.\u00a0 A lot of what we do today has its base in the original priority &amp; from there it&#8217;s been organic growth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Red Earth Kabini was our maiden venture.\u00a0 Our Mother&#8217;s property.\u00a0 It is here that all our ideologies were tried &amp; tested.\u00a0 After perfecting them, we replicated these ideas in 3 of our subsequent properties in Wayanad in Kerala.\u00a0 Tadoba in Maharashtra.\u00a0 Gokarna in Karnataka. There are so many in this entire process, who have made a remarkable difference to us with their personalities, their unique gifts &amp; absolute commitment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listed are a few from our Kabini property:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Swamy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is from the neighboring village of Hosmalla. He joined us as a security guard in 2012. Swamy showed a lot of interest to learn &amp; grow. He would initially speak in broken English to the guests, a few words at first.\u00a0 Later his confidence grew &amp; with it his vocabulary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swamy was keen to take guests on walks and village visits. \u00a0 He was proud to show &amp; explain his rural community.\u00a0 From their farming to dairy, fishing to simple cooking.\u00a0 We then decided to send him for a certified naturalist program, which he completed with ease. He worked as our naturalist and also our principal liaison man with the Government officials. Today we are proud to promote him as Manager and we hope to see him grow further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Zakir : <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joined us as a helper from Orissa in our kitchens in 2011.\u00a0 He is one of our earliest employees.\u00a0 Zakir had always keenly watched his seniors at work\u00a0 &amp; learned to be versatile. \u00a0 He is now a Master Chef, adept at satisfying the taste buds of guests from varied backgrounds &amp; needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Siddalinga The Baker: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Popularly called &#8216;Bakery&#8217; by all on the property, he learned his skills from fluffy cheese muffins to creamy pies, from Mrs. Ravi and Youtube, which was translated by Swamy or his young 8-year-old son. Prakash also learnt to be a trained magician by simply watching Arjun the Barman perform his bag of tricks. Today he thrills kids with his shows and has slowly moved up to be a naturalist as well.\u00a0 Prakash can mimic most bird sounds with ease.\u00a0 During the Lockdown he built himself a small shop in his village, popularly referred to as &#8216;The Mall of Prakash&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-642 size-large lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-684x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"684\" height=\"1024\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-684x1024.jpg 684w, https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-768x1150.jpg 768w, https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-1025x1536.jpg 1025w, https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-1367x2048.jpg 1367w, https:\/\/redearth.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Prakash-scaled.jpg 1709w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 684px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 684\/1024;\" \/><br \/>\n<b>Devaraj<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the coracle man who found his lady love on the other side of the river.\u00a0 Coracles are basket boats made of bamboo and underlined with buffalo skin to make it waterproof.\u00a0 These were introduced by the Welsh into different parts of Vietnam, Indonesia &amp; some parts of India.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These boats are ideal for fishing.\u00a0 Unlike boats that vertically cut through the water, these round thin-crusted coracles hardly skim or disturb the waters.\u00a0 It takes a certain skill to oar these coracles that go in a circular motion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One sunset, after taking his last guest, Devaraj left his coracle on the shore, with the life jackets &amp; oar underneath.\u00a0 A large storm whisked the gear out into the deep waters &amp; they disappeared.\u00a0 Devaraj was aghast &amp; the next morning he took his brother&#8217;s coracle out into the backwaters, searching for the lost possession.\u00a0 The winds took him across onto a shore where a young grey-eyed beauty was washing clothes.\u00a0 She eyed him from under her pretty lashes and our boatman was mesmerized. Today they are proud parents of grey-eyed children who love the waters and life within.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sivan &amp; Parvati <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are brother &amp; sister who look alike.\u00a0 Sivashankar has been our accounts man from our early days. He has the unique skill of speaking all languages in the same format as his mother tongue Malayalam. Sivan is also our in-house Purohit.\u00a0 And every special day from Independence to Vinayaka Chaturthi, intense poojas have the staff enthralled.\u00a0 We believe it is for the tasty prasadam that all of us diligently attend his long poojas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sivan is also accomplished in Kerala cuisine, whipping up the most delicious pal ada pradaman &amp; Theeyal. His heart is on his sleeve &amp; is very sensitive to all our needs.\u00a0 Sivan&#8217;s young, bright daughter Gopika would spend every holiday at <a href=\"https:\/\/redearth.in\/\">Red Earth<\/a>, helping us in Guest Relations, Front office and even cleaning up her dad&#8217;s office.\u00a0 Today we are proud to see Gopika excel as a young enthusiastic student of Hospitality in the prestigious college of St.Philomena&#8217;s in Mysore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parvati or Chechi as she is popularly known, had a thriving little Kerala restaurant for 25 years, in the town of Antharasanthe 5 km away from the resort.\u00a0 All traffic from Kerala to Mysore would stop at her table for a hot meal on Banana leaves &amp; the latest in village news.\u00a0 Chechi today heads our South Indian Kitchen &amp; her repertoire includes Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Iyer &amp; Andhra cuisine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Kala:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Our Spa therapist Kala, comes from Mettukuppam on the fringes of the Nagarhole forest.\u00a0 His knowledge of Medicinal herbs &amp; stories of wildlife, amaze us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Somanna:\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prajwal is from Kodagu and has been with us as a young lad, managing our Kerala, Tadoba &amp; Gokarna property and now our Kabini property.\u00a0 His calm and jovial demeanor has always made our guests feel at home.\u00a0 Prajwal has many skills, but for certain driving is not top of the list.\u00a0 He will be known in the annals of Red Earth&#8217;s history, to be the one &amp; only man to ride into a herd of wild boar on our main road.\u00a0 Prajwal&#8217;s parents we hear have got him several vehicles from 2 tyres to 4.\u00a0 And none seem to have survived.\u00a0 We have all pledged to teach him rowing &amp; perhaps he will row himself to Kodagu and back henceforth without trampling wild boar in the water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Red earth believes strongly in nurturing, training, giving skillsets &amp; employment to the indigenous community around us.
